The history of the Department of English is closely intertwined with that of the institution. Since its inception in September 1981, the department has consistently endeavoured to provide quality English education to students. A significant milestone was reached in 2012 with the sanctioning of the BA Communicative English Model III (Three Main) programme by the Government of Kerala. In 2024, the programme was restructured as BA English (Honours/Honours with Research), with specialisations in Film Studies and Media Studies. By offering a unique combination of these two specialisations within the Government sector, the department prepares students for careers in media, journalism, content creation, film and communication. The department has also maintained a strong academic tradition, with students securing university ranks consistently since the inception of the degree programme.
