Additional Skill Acquisition Programme
Teacher in Charge: Dr. Mary Micheal, Assistant Professor of Commerce
The Government of Kerala has initiated the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) with the objective of tackling the issue of growing unemployment in the state. The Programme aims at equipping selected school/college students with skills in Communication, IT and selected areas of industry and service sectors. At Level 1, ASAP imparts 300-330 hours of skill training to selected first-year students (30 per batch, maximum of 2 batches in an institution). Of this, 180 hours will be a foundation module comprising of Communication Skills and IT skills and the remaining 120-150 hours will be the module related to the skill sector chosen by the student. The focus of the foundation course is to develop soft skills that are essential to work efficiently in a corporate environment.
ASAP was first implemented in the academic year 2012-13 in selected Government Higher Secondary Schools and Government Colleges across the state. Our College enrolled for ASAP in 2012-13 itself. The first batch had 22 students who have completed their foundation course, as well as skill courses. The second batch contains 27 students who are presently doing their foundation course and skill sector course simultaneously.
The classes under ASAP are engaged by Skill Development Executives identified by the Government, generally for one hour on working days, before/after the normal working hours of the Institution.
In addition, Our College is a Skill Development Centre for ASAP. The following skill sector courses are provided to the students.
- Certified Account Technician (Two Batches)
- Customer Care Executive
- Banking andFinance
