Scholar Support Programme
Teacher in Charge: Ms. Remya K. Palamattom, Assistant                                                        Professor of English (Convener).
The Scholar Support Programme (SSP) is part of the ‘New Initiatives in Higher Education’ of the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Kerala. This programme aims to overcome the academic weakness of students who belong to the bottom of the merit hierarchy at the time of admissions. This compensatory programme aims at imparting additional support to students in curricular areas of weakness.
In our college, the SSP programme was started in the academic year 2012-13 and still continuing. Under SSP, we have identified, at the college level, as per direction a maximum of 6 subjects as difficult and a maximum of 50 students as beneficiaries. One of the subjects selected was English for which 10 students were selected. The other subjects were selected as per the needs of the students and eight students were identified for each of these remaining 5 subjects. As per instructions, one student was included in only one subject other than English and the marks in the qualifying examination were used as the criterion for selection of students (lowest percentage of marks in the qualifying examination). As per the provision, 20 sessions (10 in the first semester and 10 in the second semester), each of one-hour duration has been imparted for each subject identified as difficult. The selected students shall get support for the entire period of the programme.
